Blog-blindness

Photobucket
Purple cabbage and bolting lettuce (random picture).*

Okay, I luv ya garden bloggers, really. I love the mega popular blogs with their 54 comments which are a blog post in themselves. I love the obscure subject garden blogs with their on-point discussion and well researched posts (not to say that the former can't be the latter too). I love the meandering blogs which dabble in a little knitting and stray to posts about dogs romping in the snow. I love you all from the funny to the serious, to the constantly updated to the infrequently written BUT

I can't read them all!

There are just so many that I think I am developing blog-blindness. I try to scale down my reading so that it is manageable but I just have to leave an encouraging comment on that neglected blog with no comments that has fantastically written posts. I have to read the latest on Empress of Dirt and her 'Snow Punnies.' I am deadly curious how much gardening Heavy Petal is going to get up to with the baby on the way - I hope lots -, or what Bifucated Carrot is going to uncover on his wonderfully political organic gardening seed saving blog. But there is more, what will Crafty Gardener create, what story will Kate Smudges in Earth, Paint and Life tell us and what will A Study in Contrast find in her garden?

Oh and, of course, there is Blooming Writer who is in the process of writing something, something about blooms? A book perhaps? What will it be about? I'll have to read and wait. And... and will My Grandpa's Garden's jellybeans sprout? Will Northern Exposure ever have snowdrops ;-)? Seeded has discovered winter sowing, will it work out? How can The Gardeners Anonymous blog make me jealous with her glorious garden today? Is Growing Thumbs really growing thumbs? How deep exactly do My Roots Run Deep go? Will May Dreams Garden find her microclimate crocus soon? Will Root Cause make me want to grow another obscure veggie?

There are more and if I didn't mention you, shame on me but please forgive me. It's the blog blindness setting in again.

*Why did you stick a picture of lettuce and cabbage in this post that clearly has nothing to do with lettuce and cabbage? What if I was really interested in interplanting late season brassicas with fast maturing lettuce and wanted some information about it? Or what if I wanted to know what varities (mammoth red rock, four seasons lettuce, I think) you were growing that had such wonderful colours? Hey, did you ever think of that you trickster blogger? What were you trying to do, get me to come to your blog because of the picture?

Yes. Some searchable places (Blotanical), use pictures in their summaries and well, sometimes you are scanning really fast and ... Thanks for visiting?

I hear you. Keeping up with even just your favourite gardening blogs can be a full-time job. Well, I can update you on at least one of your queries: I'm not doing much gardening right now at all! But that has less to do with baby-on-the-way than the time of year. I did order some tomato seeds this past weekend though!

Keeping up? Nearly impossible, but that doesn't keep us from trying.
No crocus today, I'll look again tomorrow!

I don't even try to keep up anymore. The number of gardening blogs has grown so much in the past year that there isn't any way to keep up with them. Then there are blogs on other subjects that interest me, of which there are many.

Luckily this past week, I've been stuck mostly at home with the weather and my wonky neck. Reading blogs keeps my mind off being frustrated with lack of activity and the cold.

We do what we can - you also homeschool and have small children which makes a huge difference to the amount of free time you have.

Don't get snowed under with blog blindness ... there's light at the end of the tunnel, right?

I think the number of posts is due to it being Winter in the Northern hemisphere, & those of us with gardens buried in snow or with temperatures too brutal to be borne are stuck inside with nothing to do but garden surf & write posts. Don't worry, the number of posts will most likely drop off come Spring, when we'll all be spending every possible moment in the garden. (I hope you don't feel like you have to visit my blog just because I commented on yours.)

I agree with MMD, etc; we here in the northern hemisphere are garden-green-deprived at this time of year. IN the spring and summer, we don't post as often. AND, I think that the great thing about blogs (yours included, which I read faithfully among some 40+ others) are a great anodyne to the dearth of garden articles and publications at this time of year. It always puzzles me that gardening mags cut back their publications NOW, when most of us gardeners have time to read them--and then come out every month when we're so busy we can't even sleep, let along read!

I'm always hopelessly far behind, even in my favorite blogs. The number of blogs has really grown so much in the last several months, and I'm still stumbling across blogs that have been around as long as mine but I never noticed before. Help!

I think I have 40 some odd blogs in my reader. If it wasn't for feeds, I don't know what I would do.

But still there is no way of really catching up at all. Every time(ha Every Day!) I venture into garden blogging, there is always some new blog I haven't seen.

So many interesting things to read, so little time.

Trying to keep up with the many blogs I love to read is just impossible anymore--there's too many to do much of anything else but sit in front of the computer. I'm going to have to scale back to better enjoy the ones I like the the best. It's a real dilemma--I do like to go through them all.

I'm very new to blogging. I was so overwhelmed to find all the great gardening blogs out there. But being winter...I'm bored and it's fascinating to find other bloggers who are dealing with wind and snow.

It's easy to fall behind. I have way too many blogs in my feeds. And Garden is just one category. I also have Nature, Brooklyn, New York City ... I don't have time to scan, let alone read them all.

So I've been pruning my feeds.

It is hard keeping up with all the blogs, and more and more of them become favourites every day.

But I know as soon as that lovely warm gardening weather arrives I won't be spending as much time flitting all over the world searching for spring.

I've got a table full of glass bottles, old dishes and crockery just waiting to be created into something interesting for the garden.

Thanks for mentioning my blog in your post.

I couldn't find an email address for you, but your content is being scraped by a website. I don't want to give the site any more attention than possible, so if you want to email me at jodi AT bloomingwriter DOT ca, I'll give you the info. Complaining to Adsense might be the quickest way to get it stopped.

Can I recommend Google Reader to help battle your Blog-blindness? I follow 353 blogs by subscribing to their RSS feeds in Google Reader.

Being 'late' to this post is a bit more proof it's too hard to keep up. I'm new and discovering more blogs daily. Just going to my favorites takes nearly a full day now. Come spring it will be impossible to even try.

I'm just getting started myself :) Thanks for all the great links to follow - I'll have to force myself to stop reading and go to bed at a decent time, lol!

My sister lives in Ottawa and the winter weather this year sounds really brutal. I hope it warms up for you very soon!

I agree with you 100%! When I win the lottery (*wink*) I'm going to find a way to garden all day and read about gardening all night. THEN I'll stay caught up! lol.
